28 days!!

Hey! I'm Nicole, and I have been playing ringette since I was in novice. I've mostly played out of my area of St. James my whole life, so it has been great because I don't have to go that far for practices. Last year I played for the Sliver Heights Belle A team.

I am one of the youngest going on the trip to Europe, at age 17. Even though my sister Jen is playing on the team, this is the first time I will be traveling internationally without my parents. I am really looking forward to traveling overseas because I've never been to Europe! Not looking forward to the long flight but can't wait for the ringette tourney and all the countries we get to visit. I must get a camera ASAP!

All the fundraising we have been doing is making me more and more excited to go away. I can't wait for the week before the 26th, to start packing and getting all the little things I need! Now, what do I need....... and what should I be waiting to buy when we are away is the question.

Heyyy everyone. I'm Laura. I have to apologize for the less than flattering picture. I've been writing a paper all weekend, and I was at the Robins' Car Wash this morning.

I say I'm 20 to everyone who doesn't really know who I am. But I'm really 19. I've been playing ringette since I was 5 (yay only two years of bunnies), and I've played at both the A and AA level, always by choice. I've always played within my area, dear St. James, except for this year, my first year of Open, where I played out of the APFG. I've been part of Team Host once, but I was in Europe for the entire thing, so it doesn't count as much. I don't really coach. I kinda half managed the Belle A team under Kelly this year, but I had a lot of other things going on, and so I wasn't very good.

I am super pumped about the trip. Every time I talk about it to someone, I get that much more excited. I've done some basic clothes shopping, but that's really it. I've got shoe shopping to do, possibly picking up a DS for something to do on the 15 hour flight there and back (My bum! She will be numb!). I haven't been able to do a ton of planning yet, as I'm taking a spring course at university, and it has definitely taken up all my time and energy. I'm done tomorrow, so needless to say, my credit card will be much busier in the next few weeks.

Super looking forward to play! It can't come soon enough!

30 days, 23 hours and 5 minutes! – Not that I’m counting..

Hello all! First off, my name is Danielle. I’ve got no cool nickname like ‘T’ so.. you can call me Dani!

I’m 22 years old and regretfully, the senior lady on the team. This upcoming year will be my 16th season playing and 6th season coaching. I started coaching bunnies and gradually moved up and last year coached a Junior A and Belle A team. I was also fortunate enough to coach the All Star game at the MTS Centre this past winter.

As a player, I’ve played all over the city, Maples, Transcona, River East, Silver Heights and most recently Dakota. Over the years I’ve been very fortunate with the skill of the players and coaches on my teams. We participated in the Manitoba Winter Games and 3 bouts at the Western Canadian Ringette Championships as team Manitoba. My ringette has brought me a lot of travel over the years; Calgary, Vancouver, Regina, Saskatoon and The Pas just to name a few, but this by far is the most exciting! After a year and a half of planning and saving, we’re almost there and I cannot wait! I haven’t really done much to prepare just yet, I’ve gotten a converter for the outlets over in Europe and a new memory card for my camera, which will no doubt be full when I return!
I’m especially lucky to have my sister join me (Coach Chandra) on this adventure and that my parents are able to make the trip as well. This will for sure be a once in a lifetime experience. I’m really looking forward to promoting our sport and our country overseas and especially playing at a high level of competition in the country that holds the current World title!

"T" minus 33 days...

My name is Teresa Wells, commonly called 'T'. I've played ringette since Bunnies (that was a while ago!) and have been playing goalie religiously since second year novice. I've played from B level, to AA level, and have leveled out at A, with some of the best players around! I've had the honour of playing on a All-Star Team, as well as Team Manitoba and Team Host. As a player, I've never really had to play on a team that is not from my area (St. James), but as a goalie I've been called up to play with AA as well as open teams from all over Winnipeg.
This trip means so much to me, because Ringette is such a key point of my life. I'm so excited, but I haven't really done any planning... ... :3 but it's getting there! I still have to buy clothes for the trip, and I'm really excited to do some sightseeing! (as well as play!) My camera is going to get a better workout than my wallet thats for sure!

a picture worth a thousand words...

our amazing jerseys!!

first game we wore them :)

36 days is 35 too many!

Hi! I guess this is team introduction time, this is coach Chandra here, I’m 26 years old and have been playing ringette since I was 9 and started coaching at 17. My most recent claim to fame was an amazing season last year coaching the East End Petitie A team to Silver Medals in both city playoffs and provincials (way to go girls!) as well as playing Open 2 for Dakota C.C. But I’m really looking forward to this season and my first year as the assistant coach for the Bonivital AA Angels!

When Kelly brought up the idea of taking a team to Europe for the July 2010 tournament I got on board immediately, but 16 months ago it seemed so far away, it was easy to overlook how amazing this opportunity is. Now here we are only 35 days away and I can’t believe how far we’ve come! Months and months of hard work from the players, coaches and parents in preparation for this tournament is about to pay off and I couldn’t be more excited, or proud of how much work has gone into making this dream a reality. Stay tuned for all the exciting details! Coach Chandra... where she spends most of her time :)

36 days and counting... allow us to introduce ourselves!

Hi! Welcome to our blog, and thanks for joining us on our adventure! We are 36 days away from departure, when we will be leaving on a jet plane to Europe to play ringette and tour around for two weeks :)

This trip has been in the works for over a year... in fact, our very first fundraiser was almost exactly a year ago today! It stemmed from a dream of mine (this is Coach Kelly) of taking a team overseas. It seems to have become reality!!!

28 of us will depart from the Winnipeg Airport on July 26, headed to our first destination, Stolkholm, Sweden. We will travel through five countries (Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic) before returning home on August 8.

There are 17 rostered players, one fantastic honourary player, 3 coaches and 7 parents embarking on this journey. The trip has seemed so far off in the distance for so long (I remember the day we were 300 days away!!) and now we are closing in on a month away!

there is a lot of prep to be done, so in the next month the coaches and players will introduce ourselves and let you know what we are up to preparation-wise. Once we're in Europe, someone will post every day so that our friends and family can be "in the loop" of our adventures overseas. Like the planning and fundraising for this trip, everyone will contribute.

We're glad to have you along for the ride!!

Coach kelly
